Clarissa Hudson

Clarissa Hudson (Tlingit, T'akDeinTaan Black-legged Kittiwake Clan) is a founding member of Artstream Cultural Resources. She is an award-winning, multi-media artist, instructor and cultural facilitator who works in a wide range of media, including painting, printmaking, sculpture and carving, with many major pieces of her work in public and private collections.

She has been a regalia-designer and maker since 1977, specializing in Chilkat weavings/robes and button blanket robes. In 1986, following Clarissa's apprenticeship in Chilkat weaving with Jennie Thlunaut who passed away two months later, Clarissa had the honor to teach Jennie's granddaughters in l989 and since, she has been conducting Chilkat weaving apprenticeships and workshops in Southeast Alaska, Yukon, British Columbia and Colorado.

Clarissa toured with the Mt. St. Elias Dancers as drummer/dancer with the late Harry K. Bremner, Sr. in 1974. As an actress, stage/tour manager, costume/set designer presenting dramatized Tlingit stories, she has toured the U.S. and Europe working with the Naa Kahidi Theater from 1989-1993; she has worked with Perseverance Theatre in Juneau, Alaska; and has collaborated with her husband Bill Hudson on theatrical productions for families and children since 1981 to present day. Clarissa has appeared in two documentaries on Northwest coast art which have aired on national television.

Recent projects include the self-published "Jennie Weaves An Apprentice" A Chilkat Weavers'Handbook. Currently, along with a variety of projects, she is preparing a book for publication, highlighting her first 50 Alaskan Native ceremonial robes (a collection of handwoven Chilkat, Ravenstail and button blanket designs.
