Jeff Laydon, Director

Tony Tengs

Jeff began a lifelong passion for photographs as an 11-year-old. "I sent away for a Charlie Starfish Tuna Camera with tuna can wrappers and $1.99." A career of taking pictures has been very rewarding for this young-at-heart, Colorado Native. With an early start like that, it might be easy to burn out after 25+ years of professional photography. The joy of taking pictures has not left the heart of this engaging pictorialist.

After Colorado Mountain College in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, Jeff set out to "The Big D" Dallas, Texas for a career that would evolve with much excitement and reward including a strong compassion for people and the arts. The assignments involved a wide variety of subjects, celebrities, dignitaries, politicians, aerial, food, jewelry, fashion, promotions, publicity, catalogs, annual reports and so much more. This concentrated experience of training introduced Jeff to many worthwhile causes he found his talent could help.

Jeff contributed his talents to different organizations. The March of Dimes, the Salvation Army and several programs for children afflicted by diseases such as Cerebral Palsey, AIDS, Leukemia and the deaf and blind. "I was very moved by these experiences and it has never left me." Jeff also served as a volunteer Big Brother for 5 years and he was a Citizen diplomat to the Former Soviet Union in 1991.

In 1995, Jeff and his wife, Lora and twin 3-year-old girls, Alyssa and Malory moved back to Colorado and chose Pagosa Springs. This small community was all Colorado had to offer. Owner of Pagosa Photography, he has been happily serving as the "village photographer" for over 10 years at his Studio and Gallery located in Historic Downtown Pagosa Springs.

The small, yet rapidly-growing community is a perfect place for Jeff to continue his appreciation for people and the arts. He has served as past President and Board Member of the Pagosa Springs Arts Council and founded the Pagosa Springs Photo Club. He has been a 4-H Photographer leader since 1996 and works with youth in a variety of productions and educational programs.

Jeff currently serves on the boards of the Archuleta County Education Center, the 4-Corners Emmaus Community and is current President of the Pagosa Springs Spanish Fiesta Club.

"I am currently working on a photo project called "Panoramic Portraits of Pagosa People" and hope to show these unique portraits in October 2006."
